Joseph Tansek Bio

Joseph Alexander Tansek, MA, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has several years of clinical experience working with diverse populations. Mr. Tansek received his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with a Career Development Emphasis from Santa Clara University in 2005. In 2001 he received his BA degree from San Jose State University where he double-majored in Behavioral Science and Psychology.

His experiences are varied and cover a broad spectrum of mental health services. This includes working with children and adults in a multitude of settings. Some examples are working as a Clinician for the mentally ill population in the Santa Clara County Main Jail and Elmwood facilities, working in the children's shelter, working with severely mentally ill population, working in the Family Court arena, working with teens, and providing therapeutic services to Autistic and developmentally delayed youth.

Specifically, he was instrumental in the development of the Evans Lane Wellness and Recovery out-patient mental health service team, and he was one of the first clinicians to work in the outpatient program there. He has also been a Family Court Mediator intern and he is presently on the SCCPA  list of Forensic Providers. Mr. Tansek regularly conducts Family Court related mental health services which include Therapeutic Supervised Visitation, Confidential Mediation, Parent Coaching, Co-parenting counseling, Supervised Therapeutic Visitation, Confidential Mediation, Expert Testimony, and many other services. Additionally, he has experience as a Therapeutic Behavior Specialist working with autistic children, and School Counselor in a middle school setting. Mr. Tansek has also been a therapist at the Santa Clara County Children’s Shelter/ Receiving Center, working in concert with the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) to provide therapy to children who have been removed from the family home. He has also worked with the chronically and severely mentally ill population who are housed in the various acute psychiatric and residential settings in Santa Clara County. In addition to the above clinical experience, he has also taught court mandated parenting without violence, co-parenting, and batterers intervention classes at a local domestic violence counseling agency. Presently he is a Health Care Program Manager for the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Department, and has a busy private practice.

Special areas of expertise include Domestic violence, parenting, high conflict relationships, marriage counseling, PTSD, and at-risk youth.

Available services include, but are not limited to, mediation, therapeutic supervised visitation, child psychotherapy, non-directive play therapy, pre-marital therapy, couples therapy, anger management, family re-unification services, and adult individual therapy.
